Appealing San Antonio Airport Facts

Imagine a small 'h' with Terminal A making up the long side and Terminal B making up the short side. This simple design has made navigating easy, so you can quickly get from either end of Terminal A to the far end of Terminal B in about 10 minutes. The SAT website provides an approximate wait time for security check, and coupons to most airport eateries and stores. Free Wi-Fi throughout the airport is the cherry on top. U.S. Armed Forces members and family have a place to call home at the USO facility in Terminal B by the baggage claim.

Unappealing San Antonio Airport Facts

With only two parking areas availability can be limited in this 7th largest city in America. There are device charging stations in the airport, but only located by the Dunkin' Donuts at gate A7. These often fill up fast and you have to stake out the area for when someone leaves if you're desperate.

Boredom Busters in the San Antonio Airport

Stop by Stars of San Antonio, near gate A8, for all the best souvenirs from magnets to Texan-made jewelry. Terminal B houses several large pieces of art, including rotating exhibits to help local artists. If you have no need to go to Terminal B, take a walk down the short terminal to see 43 stunning art glass window treatments to spark your inner creativity. No airport delay is complete without duty free shopping, and you can find it at SAT by A6/A7 in the UETA Duty Free store. Grab a local beer if you have time at Mission City Ice House or head over to the Alamo Alehouse if you're feeling the need for a burger with a brew.

Interesting Tidbits About the San Antonio Airport

The San Antonio International Airport (SAT) opened in July of 1942 but was not for public use. Because of WWII wartime needs the airport debuted as a United States Army Air Forces training base. The airfield was then turned over to the City of San Antonio when the war ended and it opened for commercial use in 1953. SAT officially serviced over 3.5 million people by the end of the 20th century. After Terminal B was completed in 2010, renovation for Terminal A began and was completed in 2015.
